A little history of Black Forest Cake
Originating from the picturesque Black Forest region of Germany, the Black Forest Cake, or Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, is a symphony of flavors and textures. Its luscious layers of chocolate sponge cake, adorned with whipped cream, cherries, and chocolate shavings, create a harmonious balance that captures the essence of indulgence.
Ingredients:
- Chocolate Sponge Cake:
- 200 gram of all-purpose flour
- 150grams of granulated sugar
- 5 grams of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 5 grams of baking powder
- 5 grams of baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 7 Eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 5 grams of vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- Whipped Cream Filling:
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- Preferred Whipping cream is Prestine
- Cherry Filling or Fresh Strawberries:
- 2 cups pitted cherries (fresh or canned)
- ¼ cup of water room
- 2 tablespoons cherry liqueur (optional)
- Decoration:
- Chocolate shavings
- Maraschino cherries or fresh strawberries
Instructions:
- Prepare the Chocolate Sponge Cake:
- Add 7 eggs in a mixing machine bowl and mix for 2 minutes at high speed.
- Add 150grams of sugar to the eggs and mix for 5 minutes at high speed. Mix until well combined.
- With the mix, add 180grams of all purpose wheat flour. Also add 5grams of cocoa powder and 5 grams of baking soda.
- To mix the new mixture, turn the mixing machine to low speed for 2 minutes.
- Add 5 ml of caramel solution and 5ml vanilla essence and hand mix till they all dissolve.
- Preheat your oven to 175°C.
- Grease a 8-inch round cake pan.
- Pour the chocolate sponge mixture evenly on the prepared cake baking tin.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool completely.
- Preparing the Whipped Cream Filling:
- Place the Whipping liquid cream pack on refrigeration for hours till it chilled.
- Pour the Whipping liquid cream in a bowl and mix until stiff peaks form.
- Assemble the Cake:
- Divide the chocolate sponge cake in 3 equal portions.
- Place one layer of chocolate sponge cake on a serving plate or cake decorating board.
- Spread a layer of whipped cream over the cake, followed by a layer of cherry filling or strawberries.
- Top with the second layer of chocolate sponge cake.
- Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining whipped cream.
- Decorate the cake with chocolate shavings and maraschino cherries or Strawberries.
- Serve and Enjoy the soft, tasty and fresh blackforest cake.
